About the Conclave

Innovation Driven Learning

The era of Artificial intelligence, 3 D printing, robotics, etc is in the process of transforming the workplace from task-based characteristics to human-centered characteristics. With machine learning taking prominence, it is imperative that teaching-learning, research and innovation has to be more interdisciplinary. Universities will need to emphasize their role in shaping future technology by being the testbeds for innovation. The conventional way of teaching-learning has become redundant and innovation and accepting change have now become the prerequisites for sustenance in the 21st century education system. It is time now that the higher education sector be among the key players in shaping the Fourth Industrial revolution.

Social Outreach in Higher Education

United Nations (UN) in its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), has highlighted the criticality of inclusive and quality education. As per its goal, by 2030, all learners should acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence. For the accomplishment of such a vision, all citizens have to become active producers of knowledge and well- being, and not just mere apathetic consumers. This session will have deliberations on how University 4.0 should emphasize ‘education’ & ‘educative practice’ in ways which make them socially relevant and responsible. This will require a holistic and comprehensive approach towards performance of the three core missions of a higher educational institution, viz., engaged teaching, engaged research & engaged service (active citizenship)

Role of Technology in Higher Education

In today’s age of technology disruption, the focus has shifted from ‘what is taught’ to a nuanced approach on ‘the way it is to be taught’. It is to be noted that Technology alone does not transform learning; rather, technology helps enable transformative learning. Taking full advantage of technology to transform learning requires strong measures at the policy and implementation level. The policy should enable an ecosystem where a culture of innovation and change thrives in inclusivity. The session would entail discussion around the effective ways of adopting and implementing technology in the teaching-learning process of 21st century education.

Role of Regulators and Institutional Leadership

The competence and commitment of faculty towards educational processes and pedagogical innovations play a pivotal role in improving and strengthening the teaching- learning process, research and innovation. And for this to happen, regulators and institutional leaders play extremely significant roles in creating the conducive environment. Autonomy, when exercised with the sense of responsibility and accountability will inevitably lead to excellence in academics and governance in the institutions/universities. Hence, the role of the regulator should predominantly be on creating an ecosystem that allows autonomy along with accountability to quality higher educational institutions/universities. This session will deliberate on roles that the regulator and institutional leaders need to play in augmenting quality higher education ecosystem in the country.
